Working From Live Models

Drawing from live models can be an invaluable experience for students. In MS, I have students pose for each other for 5-10 minutes. For HS, I do the same. I also bring live models into my HS after school drawing sessions. Some poses are short, while others can be up to 2 hours long. Others might be 4 hours long over two sessions. Students also have the choice of mediums, allowing them to challenge themselves in new ways.

“Figure drawing” as it is commonly known, is a huge plus for a college portfolio for Art. Figure drawing is not commonly seen in high schools, but it is definitely seen in colleges. Therefore, it looks even better for a high school student’s portfolio!
