Living in another country allows you to learn every day about this new culture. For me, one of the first things I seek to do is to look for host country artists / craftsmen to introduce to my students. Every opportunity I get, I take my students to see art and artist studios. Living in the Netherlands meant taking a weekend tour during Kunstroute (a yearly event where artists open their studios up to the public). In China, there are endless opportunities to meet with artists and see their studios. My students have met Ai Wei Wei, Lin Tianmao, Wang Gongxin, Shen Jingdong, Ma Han, Zeng Fanzhi, Liu Ye, Denise Keele-Bedford and many more…
